Waltz about Spring

Waltz about Spring has derived from my exploration of the phenomenon of the window grill in former Soviet places along with the series Windows of Tolerance.
The two-channel video documents my embroidery process, presenting a split picture of post-Soviet reality and my attempt to engage with it, to mend it.
The process is accompanied by the song Waltz about Spring, written for the musical comedy Our Dear Doctor filmed in one of Almaty health resorts in 1958. Written in the time known as Khruschev's Thaw, the song welcomes the arrival of spring, asking people to open their windows to it. As I juxtapose the song with the video, I aim to point to the persistence of Sovietness in the current post-Soviet condition.
